Sustainability as a family tradition “The company was founded as a biomedical cosmetics business. This was in 1956, when sustainability was anything but ‘en vogue’,” explains co-owner Isabel Bonacker. “It is our firm conviction that sustainability, in all its facets, is important for the success of the company.” The company was ahead of its time in multiple ways: In the 1990s, the BABOR brand launched a refill jar, committed to waste management and water microfiltration at a time when sustainability was sneered at. More than 10 years ago, the first electric vehicle charging station in the region was installed at the headquarters in Aachen. Today, the headquarters features more than 60 charging stations, employees can charge their vehicles for free, and the company has a 100% electric car policy."We don’t work for short-term profits, but for the success of the next generation,” says Isabel Bonacker. “As a family-owned company, we believe in the power of sustainable business – or, in other words, in future-proofing. We aren’t perfect, not everything works right off the bat, but we’re 110% committed.”
